ophia Aboagye is the Chief Executive Officer (C E O) of Sankofa Radio Toronto. The radio station which was established in September, 2004.
Sophia was a student of Dwamena Akenteng Secondary School at Offinso Ghana before coming to Canada in 1989. In 1990, she enrolled at Emery Collegiate Institute in Toronto where she obtained her Daycare certificate in 1991. She later studied at the Yorkdale Secondary School where she was awarded a Bank Teller certificate in 1994. To make herself more employable she furthered her education at the Canadian Business College for the Personal Support Worker certificate (Diploma) in 2000 and from 2004 to 2006, went to Centennial College in Toronto for her Diploma in Developmental Services.
Earlier in 1998 Sophia and her husband Nana Kwaku Agyemang of blessed memory founded the Ghana Net Radio (Internet Radio) in Toronto in the name of Natro Multimedia Inc. The Internet Radio was new then and very expensive to operate but they were able to compete with traditional radio but on limited hours. On the success of the Internet Radio, Natro Multimedia Inc added the African Entertainment Television (A E T V) based in Toronto and the Sankofa Radio 101.3 FM to make their mark on the traditional radio scene in 2004.
In July 27, 2002 she became the President of African Entertainment Television (A E T V) in charge of administrative duties while her husband runs the technical and field duties.
Sophia Aboagye was forced to take on the total running of the project on the sad passing of the husband and business partner in January 18, 2006. AETV ran successfully until late 2010 when she decided to concentrate on the Sankofa Radio 101.3 FM due to work overlo
ad and financial constraints. Today Sankofa Radio 101.3 fm is a household name in the Ghanaian Canadian Community and serves as the main news outlet for the community. Churches, Associations, Cultural Groups and others have come to rely heavily on Sophia and her outfit as their eye piece.
